About Mauldsheugh Wood

The Mauldsheugh Wood Community Wildlife Project was launched in 2020 to connect people with nature.

It is home to owls, woodpeckers, badgers, deer and foxes, among many other creatures.

The wood is a remnant of the ancient Ettrick Forest which once stretched across much of the Scottish Borders and was used by William Wallace as a base for his guerrilla campaign against English armies.

Today you're more likely to find it full of children and families following the nature trails and visiting the bird viewing areas and wildlife pond.
